The place

A double-storey bluestone Victorian in Port Fairy, on the Great Ocean Road. Working with architects Multiplicity, a new frame of perforated metal and glass was drawn around the old house — historic below, contemporary at the edges.

Six suites, no two alike. One keeps its stone walls bare; another leans into timber. Each is finished meticulously — exquisite furnishing, king bedding, a bath to soak in, free internet.

Outside, a breezy pool. In the kitchen, a refined menu drawn from the rustic dishes of Spain, and a drink list built on the wines of Western Victoria.
