The place

First opened in 1919, this two-acre Ojai property has been returned to its original Spanish Revival charm. The 50 rooms spread across the main building, the bungalows, and the Sycamore House — vintage furnishings, curated art, terracotta underfoot. Many open onto a spacious garden terrace.

Everything gathers at the outdoor pool: yellow-striped loungers, palm and dragon trees, Spanish-style fountains, potted plants. Bicycles wait for anyone drawn beyond the grounds.

Of the three places to eat and drink, Condor Bar leans Mexican, with Santa Maria-style grills; La Cocina keeps to a European-style breakfast and lunch.
