KEX Portland
The place
An ivory brick building from 1912, revived by Icelandic designer Hálfdan Pedersen. KEX began in Iceland; its Portland outpost keeps the same social warmth — wooden surfaces, mid-century furniture, objects gathered by hand.
Just 29 rooms, split between bunks and private rooms. Each carries a vintage charm: antique wooden furnishings, plush bedding, Firsthand Supply toiletries, morning coffee. Upstairs, loungers for guests who want to linger.
Pacific Standard serves a modern West Coast menu all day. Come summer, the Sunset Room opens on the roof — experimental cocktails, chilled drinks, the evening light.
