The place

In Fitzroy, The StandardX arrived in 2024 in a skin of weathering steel — a nod to the suburb's light-industrial streets. Hecker Guthrie carried the idea inside: exposed concrete, terrazzo underfoot, metal where it counts.

The 125 rooms and suites keep a clean white base with blue-striped carpets and small things done well — Davines in the shower, an SMEG kettle, a Frank Green French press, an Ultimate Ears speaker for the evening.

Three ways to eat and drink. BANG serves Thai street food all day on the ground floor. The Roof does Mexican-inspired bites and drinks in the open air. The Box handles the grab-and-go.
