A Spanish Revival house from the 1940s in Polanco, Mexico City, extended with a contemporary wing and refurbished by several studios into something quietly elegant — a soothing neutral palette, modern furnishing, touches of lime green.

The 19 rooms and suites keep the calm: walnut floors, crisp white walls, sophisticated decor. In the details, a large marble bathroom, a Bang & Olufsen speaker, Xinú toiletries, a Dyson hairdryer; some rooms open onto a private terrace.

There is a modern fitness centre, a therapeutic spa, and a cozy reading room made for staying in. La Veranda serves fine gourmet cuisine; beyond the door, Polanco's tables wait — Raíz among them, contemporary Mexican at the haute end.
