The place

The oldest hotel in Switzerland stands on the Basel riverfront, dating back to 1861. Herzog & de Meuron recently reimagined it — French classicism crossed with bold contemporary gestures.

The 101 rooms and suites split into two temperaments. At Blumenrain 2, red velvet alcoves, contemporary furniture, mahogany accents. At Blumenrain 8, the hotel's timeless opulence, untouched. Some suites add a scenic balcony and a bathtub.

Then the table. Cheval Blanc holds three Michelin stars, folding Mediterranean and Asian influences into French haute cuisine. Seijaku, the Japanese-inspired wellness area, keeps a sauna, a 24-hour gym, and immersive treatments.
