The place

An ivory three-story building from 1908 — once a hotel, once a furniture workshop — brought back to life in Portland, Oregon in September 2021. North 45 Projects kept the revival quiet; the lobby reads like a gallery, hung with hand-curated artwork and objects.

The 57 rooms and suites lean vintage. Wooden furniture, vintage rugs, a playful mix of millwork, textiles, and patterns. The essentials are considered: comfortable bedding in premium linens, a work desk, Diptyque in the bath, a SMEG fridge, a Nespresso machine, a TV.

Two places to linger. Grand Amari, in the lobby, is a sophisticated Italian restaurant of classic pasta and seafood. Little Bitter Bar is looser — vibrant cocktails and small bites.
