The place

A former fish market beside the Douro, remade as a piece of Bauhaus-inspired architecture. Past the steel entrance of Hotel Vincci Porto, the lobby opens into a soaring ivory atrium dotted with colourful modernist furniture.

The 95 rooms and suites carry the same modernist streak — sleek furniture in shades of teal, orange, and brown, with the basics covered: comfortable bedding, a desk, a television, wifi. An affordable stay that doesn't look like one.

The rooftop lounge takes in the river and the city at once. Downstairs, the restaurant borrows its design from Frank Lloyd Wright's iconic office interior; the Douro Lounge Bar keeps things intimate and moody.
