The place

A 19th-century townhouse a stone's throw from the Douro, holding a quiet modern interior behind its historic face. Duas Portas is discreet by design — white and wood, pared back almost to Scandinavian stillness, with an ambient garden at its centre.

The eight rooms follow the same line: minimal, modern, warmed by small touches of forest green. Some look out over the river.

Breakfast is homemade, from fresh seasonal ingredients. The garden asks nothing of you. And when you feel like moving, a complimentary loan bike waits for wandering the neighbourhood.
