Kulm Hotel St. Moritz
The place
Perched above the lake, the Kulm is where winter tourism began in 1864, when Johannes Badrutt wagered that his English summer guests would love the Engadin in snow. The bet held. The hotel still looks out over the village and the mountains with the same calm, its rooms keeping their pine panelling, their painted ceilings and their windows full of valley.
Days begin in the Festsaal and end by the fire. In between there is the alpine spa with its outdoor pool steaming in the snow, the Kulm Country Club redesigned by Norman Foster, the natural ice rink, and the Cresta Run just below. A ski concierge and the Alpine Sports Lounge take care of the slopes.
