The place

An island, forty minutes' drive from Bergen, with wilderness on every side. Lilloy Lindenberg holds four rooms — three in the main house, one in the boathouse — designed by Vera & Kyte in antique Scandinavian folk style, warmed with wooden furnishings and local arts and crafts.

Life gathers in the living room: sofas, fireplaces, a card game, a drink.

There is no formal restaurant, and it hardly matters. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking your own meals, or there are chef Antje de Vries's signature plant-based dishes. Between meals — the outdoor hot tub, the sauna, the botanical library.
