The place

An Italian Renaissance-style building in Richmond, once an early-1900s dry goods store, now given over to art. Inside Quirk Hotel Richmond, the palette turns white and pink, contemporary and light, while the original arched columns and windows still hold the room.

The 73 rooms and suites carry the same white-and-pink calm. Custom furniture in reclaimed wood, maple and pine floors, local artwork on the walls. The basics are all here — comfy bedding, a work desk, a TV, coffee facilities, free wifi — and pups up to 70 pounds are welcome.

The heart of the place is its on-site gallery, showing work by established and emerging artists, with unique exhibitions hosted regularly. Three restaurants and bars share the building; at The Lobby Bar, the menu leans Mediterranean, made for sharing.
