Roku Kyoto

The place

Roku Kyoto sits at the foot of the Takagamine hills, surrounded by acres of forest. Envisioned by BLINK Design, the hotel reads as a modern take on the traditional Japanese resort — buildings that echo the region's historical architecture, interiors of crisp wood.

There are 114 rooms and suites. Warm wooden surfaces, modern furniture, sumptuous bedding. Each has a stone bathroom with a bathtub; most look out to the Tenjin River or the foothills.

Outside, an onsen-thermal pool steams against the mountains. A 24-hour fitness center shares the same expansive view. For dinner, Chef's Table serves a French-inspired menu; All-Day Dining keeps things seasonal and relaxed.
