The place

Saltmoore keeps 85 acres of estate and woodland outside the coastal town of Whitby. The nineteenth-century townhouse holds a Victorian countryside calm; its 72 rooms lean on nature-drawn tones, with elegant furnishings, Egyptian sheets and Wildsmith toiletries.

Wellness anchors the place. The Sanctuary gathers a light-filled indoor pool, a spa pool, a sauna and steam room, an ice bath and a relaxation room; the gym and a stroll to the lake fill the gaps. Of the three culinary concepts, The Brasserie is the main room — chef Adam Maddock's classic dishes, built on North Yorkshire's finest produce.
