The place
In Fortitude Valley, The Calile rises eight storeys in the manner of a subtropical resort — arched windows, curved balconies, a pool podium at its centre. Richards and Spence drew the building; the palms do the rest.
The 175 rooms and suites take their cues from a retro beach resort. Pale pink, blue or green, under concrete ceilings, softened with timber and bespoke furniture.
The outdoor pool is the hotel's still point, edged with loungers, cabanas and palm trees. A 24-hour gym and KAILO Medispa sit alongside. For the table: Biànca, classic Italian cooked from local produce, and sAme sAme, vibrant Southeast Asian plates.
