The place

Tucked into Spring Hill, The Johnson takes its name and its manner from Michael Johnson, the Australian abstract artist whose work hangs through the building. The interiors hold to white and wood, sleek and spare, letting the canvases do the talking.

The 83 apartment-style accommodations run from studios to two bedrooms — sumptuous bedding, coffee facilities, some with a kitchenette and balcony.

Then there is the pool. Fifty metres of it, outdoors, designed by Olympic swimmer Michael Klim, with ample sundecks along its length. A modern gym sits inside. No restaurant on-site; Spring Hill keeps plenty of tables close by.
