The place
Downtown San Diego, inside a 1924 sandstone building. The grand facade has been lovingly preserved; the interior is fully redone. The lobby leans moody — rich velvet seating, dark wooden floors.
The 162 rooms and suites go the other way: bright, minimal, monochrome. White and black, modern furnishings, rose-gold lighting, tufted leather headboards. Ritz-Carlton bedding by Stearns & Foster, Le Labo in the bath, a TV with Netflix.
A 24-hour fitness center is on site. In the lobby and courtyard, The Guild Cafe & Bar serves a contemporary Italian American menu and a wide range of drinks.
