The Lafayette Hotel
The place
First opened in 1946 in San Diego's North Park, and lately transformed by Post Company into something glamorous again. Behind the colonial-style facade of the 4-star hotel, the design leans vibrant and nostalgic — the golden age of the 1940s, revisited without irony.
The 139 eclectic rooms and suites wear a dark vintage glamour: moody red, lime green, and black, crossed with oriental and safari-inspired patterns. Plush bedding, Diptyque toiletries, a Marshall speaker, free wifi.
Outside, the resort-style pool earns its daybeds and pale pink umbrellas. The food keeps pace — Quixote is an extravagant restaurant with an Oaxacan and Mexican-inspired menu.
