The place

East of Central Park, in a 1927 Renaissance Revival building on the Upper East Side. Jacques Grange gave the lobby its signature: black-and-white striped marble underfoot, posh velvet seating, vibrant art.

The 152 rooms and suites go quieter — a creamy palette, elegant furnishings, marble bathrooms with Lefroy Brooks fixtures, Italian bedding, a deep soaking tub, bespoke toiletries. The penthouse, at over 10,000 square feet, is the largest hotel penthouse suite in the US.

The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges turns out elevated European classics from the freshest ingredients; Caviar Kaspia keeps the lights low for its signature caviar dishes. A modern fitness center completes the picture.
