The place
On a corner of West Sunset Boulevard near Beverly Hills, in glass and wood. British architectural designer John Pawson shaped the interiors, and it shows — travertine, timber, a neutral calm that asks nothing of you.
The 190 rooms and suites lean Scandinavian: white walls, light wood, minimalistic modern furnishing. Floor-to-ceiling windows, a French balcony, a natural stone bathroom with porcelain floors, Le Labo in the shower.
The rooftop pool is the still point, with the Hollywood Hills and Beverly Hills laid out beyond the water. A gym runs 24 hours. At Ardor, Michelin-starred chef John Fraser cooks vegetable-forward California cuisine from locally inspired produce.
