The Whitby Hotel

The place

A grey limestone building in Midtown Manhattan, just south of Central Park. Inside, Kit Kemp's interiors run colorful and quirky — English influences, intricate patterns — kin to the sister properties Crosby Street Hotel and Warren Street Hotel.

Each of the 86 rooms and suites is designed individually. Vintage furniture beside new, bespoke textiles, curated artwork and objects. The factory-style windows are large; the light does the rest. The Terrace Suites open onto private terraces with the city laid out below.

Elsewhere in the house: a private screening room, a drawing room, a library, a fully equipped gym. The Whitby Bar and Restaurant serves refined American dishes through the day, in the Orangery or out on the terrace.
