United Places Hotel Botanic Gardens hides in South Yarra, Melbourne — a sleek three-storey building beside the Royal Botanic Gardens. Local studio Carr shaped the interiors, an elegant and sophisticated take on industrial design.

Twelve suites only. Raw and refined at once: exposed concrete offset by velvet seating, contemporary furniture, dark wooden floors, touches of marble. Each suite carries floor-to-ceiling windows, a private balcony, a modern kitchen, and Le Labo toiletries.

On the ground floor, Matilda 159 cooks contemporary Australian food over open fire and hot coals. If the room holds you, the restaurant will bring dinner to the suite.
