The place
Ace Hotel Sydney fills the historic Tyne Building in Surry Hills, eighteen levels of it. Flack Studio handled the interiors, drawing on the Australian desert — vintage in flair, warm in tone.
The 257 rooms and suites, all pet-friendly, carry the same retro line: exposed brick, raw concrete ceilings, vintage-inspired furnishing. Comfortable beds, eco-friendly toiletries, a TV, free wifi.
There is a compact gym with machines and free weights, and loan bikes for wandering the suburbs. Food is the real thread — four places to eat and drink on site, among them Kiln on the rooftop, where contemporary Australian cooking borrows from Italy, Japan and Southeast Asia.
