The place

On the shoreline of Tulum Beach, dark wooden and concrete pavilions scatter through lush gardens and palms — a sustainable 4-star that lets the vegetation do the talking.

The 64 suites and villas are moody, rustic things: handmade furnishings, cement floors, exposed dark wood and stone walls. Some add a private outdoor plunge pool and terrace.

Two outdoor pools, and a spa with a sauna, a steam room and treatments. Four places to eat and drink, among them Ocumare, turning traditional Mexican cuisine toward the international, and 4 Fuegos, given over to ancient grilling and slow-cooked dishes.
