The place

Near the center of Ubud, a clean contemporary concrete building holding a small hotel. Inside, new and old cross — modern industrial lines against traditional Balinese wood.

The 38 suites and villas keep exposed concrete walls and wooden furnishings, stylish without losing warmth. Each has a Japanese soaking tub and a private terrace or balcony.

The infinity pool looks out over forest and valley. There is a compact gym with machines and free weights. Copper Kitchen & Bar cooks international dishes from local produce; Embers keeps to fresh Mediterranean.
