At 1,250 metres in the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, Casa de São Lourenço pairs a historic stone building with a sleek concrete one. The interior remembers the site's wool-making past: an ivory palette, traditional craftsmanship, local wool, handmade artwork.
The 21 light-filled rooms and suites are designed one by one — Portuguese designer furniture, organic materials, quiet traces of history. In some, floor-to-ceiling windows open onto a private balcony, and the mountains go on and on.
The indoor-outdoor pool holds the same view. There is a fitness room, a spa, a sauna, a hammam. At Restaurant São Lourenço, chef Manuel Figueira builds a regional menu from seasonal mountain ingredients.
