Chicago Athletic Association Hotel
The place
The Chicago Athletic Association Hotel began in 1893 as a private athletic club, its Venetian Gothic building designed by Henry Ives Cobb. Roman + Williams revived it for Downtown Chicago with the nineteenth century intact — a nostalgic design that honors the original clubrooms.
The 241 rooms and suites hold an elegant white and brown palette, vintage-inspired furnishing, and carved details. Carrara marble bathrooms with premium fixtures, C.O. Bigelow amenities, bespoke linens and blankets.
A 24-hour gym keeps the athletic name honest. Seven dining venues fill the building, crowned by Cindy's, the rooftop restaurant with a seafood-inspired menu. For drinks, the Game Room — a playful bar in what was once the billiards room.
