An eight-storey black brick building in downtown Washington DC, with interiors by Gachot Studios and Parts and Labor that lean stylishly retro. The 209 rooms and suites pair dark wood furniture with colorful patterned rugs, organic bedding, and Grown Alchemist in the bath.

There is a wellness center with a 24-hour fitness studio, infrared saunas, and yoga classes, plus a coworking space for slower hours among company.

Four places to eat and drink. Michele's, from Michelin-starred chef Matt Baker, keeps to French-American fare; Wild Days, up on the roof, keeps to cocktails and tacos.
