The place

An ivory complex from 1852, just north of Charleston's historic market. The lobby sets the register — white walls, dark wood, nothing raised above a murmur.

The 212 rooms and suites go richer: deep green velvet headboards, dark mustard curtains, warm wooden decor. Each has a Crosley turntable, with a house collection of more than 500 vinyl records to draw from.

Three places to eat. Frannie & The Fox cooks over wood fire with a subtle Italian accent. The Den is the hidden one — sparkling drinks, share-style dishes. Clerks Coffee Company handles the mornings, with sweet and savory bites alongside.
