The place
A white 1940s motel in Laguna Beach, reimagined steps from the water. Designer Robert McKinley drew on the Mediterranean and the California coast, and the result is playful, easy, contemporary.
The 22 rooms and suites are each one of a kind, in a range of configurations — white and wood, bespoke modern furnishing beside vintage pieces, curated artwork, exposed beams overhead. A vinyl record player waits in the room; the bathrooms carry hand-painted tiles and a marble vanity.
The outdoor pool is the crown jewel, ringed with daybeds and greenery. Shaw's Cove Beach is a two-minute walk. Saline, the al fresco restaurant and bar, serves a fresh coastal menu all day, its flavors leaning toward the Middle East.
