Reykjavik, Iceland
Ion City Hotel
The place
A traditional Icelandic building in downtown Reykjavik, reworked by local studio Minarc into something sleek and quiet. Icelandic touches surface throughout, subtly.
Just 18 rooms and suites, Scandinavian in temperament — simple palettes, clean lines. A B&O speaker, L:A Bruket toiletries, a Nespresso machine. The suites keep their own private wooden saunas.
A small hotel, so the gestures are few and considered. A compact 24-hour gym. And Sumac, the house restaurant and bar, where North African and Middle Eastern dishes are built from local produce and Moroccan spices.
