The place
A quiet urban sanctuary in the heart of Taipei, designed by Neri & Hu. Behind a black-and-beige facade, the lobby turns industrial: intricate furniture, careful metalwork.
The 129 rooms and suites soften the register. A minimalist Japanese hand, white and wood, pops of forest green, a king bed and an espresso machine. Some suites hold a large onsen-style bathtub.
Upstairs, a rooftop terrace among greenery, and a loaner bike waiting by the door for the city beyond. On the twelfth floor, The Tavernist, a Michelin-plated restaurant and bar led by James Sharman, keeps an inventive kitchen.
