The place
A seventeenth-century convent and a sleek new building, joined in the center of Lisbon. Locke de Santa Joana opened in 2024, its interiors shaped by Post Company and Lázaro Rosa-Violàn. The old archways, pillars and moldings remain; everything around them has been quieted.
The 370 rooms, studios and suites keep to neutral and terracotta tones — clean modern furniture, vintage carpets, wooden floors, artwork and objects chosen with care. Some hold a full kitchen, a private terrace, or a trace of the building’s past.
Outside, yellow lounge beds and straw umbrellas ring the outdoor pool. There is a gym, a courtyard, a co-working space, and four places to eat and drink — among them Santa Marta, an all-day Italian restaurant.
