The place
Just north of Playa del Carmen, on Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, Maroma spreads its 72 suites across a scatter of whitewashed houses. Inside each: artisanal furniture, traditional patterned tiles, Xinú bath products and a private terrace. The mood is unhurried, made for a romantic escape.
Three turquoise pools lie outdoors, the main one held in a ring of palms. There is the Maroma Spa by Guerlain, a 24-hour gym, a kids' club and a meditation studio.
