Tulum, Mexico
Coqui Coqui Papholchac Coba
The place
Less than an hour from Tulum, on the banks of a lagoon in the Yucatán jungle, Coqui Coqui Papholchac Coba nearly disappears into its landscape. Its architecture takes after the nearby Mayan ruins — indigenous stones, ancient techniques, walls that feel found rather than built.
Four suites and a private villa, styled after the 1920s explorer. Handmade furniture, antique maps and globes, botanical drawings, archaeological photographs. A stone bathtub, a hanging hammock, a private terrace.
Two pools face the calm of the lagoon, plush loungers at their edge. There is a perfumery, ample space to lounge, and a spa with an outdoor shower and a cenote-inspired pool. The restaurant keeps to a Mayan-inspired menu of regional specialties.
