The place
Mazeej Balad occupies the 129-year-old La Viennoise building in downtown Cairo. Designed by Malak Orfy, it holds just five rooms, each named after an imaginary character — minimal furnishings, curated artifacts, local motifs.
Ceilings soar. Bathrooms are marble. Private wrought iron balconies, potted plants along the rail.
The rooftop is the heart of it, open through the day: reimagined Egyptian cooking, signature cocktails. Breakfast — local and international — is included.
