MONA Pavilions

The place

Beside MONA — the Museum of Old and New Art, the largest privately funded museum in the Southern Hemisphere — a set of sculptural contemporary pavilions looks out over the River Derwent at Berriedale, Hobart.

There are 8, one- and two-bedroom, each named for an influential Australian artist and each different, though a modern industrial thread runs through. Colourful furnishing, comfortable king bedding, a kitchen, a full laundry, a TV, free wifi — and works from the Mona collection on the walls.

The heated indoor pool sits behind floor-to-ceiling glass. A sauna and a compact gym nearby. At The Source Restaurant, the menu leans French, built on seasonal Tasmanian produce.
