The place

Palazzo Shedir occupies a monumental private mansion within Palazzo Borghese, in Rione Campo Marzio near the Spanish Steps. Its Baroque frescoes and stuccoes have been restored; newer, residential touches settle the grandeur into something closer to a home.

Four rooms and suites, no more — each layered with fine frescoes, precious artwork and objects, wooden parquet, and furniture that moves between vintage and contemporary. A butler is on hand at any hour.

Elsewhere in the house: an indoor pool, a sauna, a Turkish bath, a tranquil courtyard, a modern fitness space. The kitchen cooks a tailor-made menu of traditional flavours, and offers lessons in the Roman and Italian recipes behind it.
