Rosewood Matakauri

The place

Rosewood Matakauri rests on the shores of Lake Wakatipu outside Queenstown, where the mountains do most of the talking. The main lodge holds just thirteen suites in soothing creamy tones — refined modern furnishings, a large soaking tub, a private balcony turned toward the view.

The spa carries the stay: a heated outdoor pool, hot and cold plunge pools, an outdoor cedar sauna, a fitness centre open around the clock. Nights are for stargazing. Days, depending on the season, for lake swimming or skiing.

The kitchen stays close to the region — high-country lamb, seafood caught from the lake.
