Soori Bali keeps to itself in Tabanan, on a secluded stretch of oceanfront folded into terraced rice fields. SCDA Architects gave it an understated contemporary form that settles into the surroundings rather than standing against them.

The 48 villas range from one to ten bedrooms, each with a private pool facing mountain or ocean. Soothing neutral tones, sleek lines, natural local materials. Butler service, Bose sound, a private patio.

The main infinity pool holds a long view over the Indian Ocean. A full-service spa and a 24-hour gym are on-site, and of the two dining venues, Ombak gives its attention to European cuisine.
