Midtown Manhattan, just south of Chelsea: a 1907 Renaissance palazzo joined to a new glass high-rise. Martin Brudnizki designed the interiors of the 5-star hotel as maximalism in full color — bright bursts, jewel tones, pattern answering pattern.
The 151 rooms and suites take the building's history as their brief. Custom vintage-inspired furniture, bold patterns, antiques and artwork. Marble bathrooms, deluxe Duxiana bedding, a Dyson hair dryer, a Marshall speaker.
Café Carmellini, under award-winning chef Andrew Carmellini, is the grand dining room, its menu drawn from Italy and France. The Portrait Bar keeps to the moodier side, with sophisticated cocktails. Fitness comes through partner studios nearby.
