The place

Two acres of former farmland in Amagansett, in the Hamptons. Behind the historic shingle-style facade, the 14 rooms are pared to a crisp white — cozy furnishing, wooden accents, everything considered and little of it loud.

The gardens do the entertaining. Seating tucked among the green, cruiser bikes to borrow, beach kits, seasonal fitness classes. A fresh continental breakfast arrives every morning.

There is no restaurant or bar on the property, and it hardly matters. The main street sits just beside, its dining and drinking a few steps away.
