The place

In the centre of Hobart, The Rox pairs a historic college building with a new contemporary sandstone neighbour — curved corners, deep windows, a quiet nod to the heritage around it. It opened in February 2022 with just fifteen accommodations, apartments and a penthouse among them.

Choose your era. The heritage apartments keep exposed stone walls, arched windows and lofty ceilings; the modern ones settle into a cosy white palette with sleek furnishing. All come with a fully equipped kitchen, a laundry with washer and dryer, and plush bedding — made for staying a while.

Two places to eat. Institut Polaire cooks a contemporary menu from fresh local produce and pours from an award-winning list of avant-garde wines. Omotenashi seats twelve at a counter for seasonal Japanese.
