The place

Inside the medieval city of Mdina, a 17th-century palace still keeping its baroque face. The interiors return the palazzo to its former noble opulence: 17 rooms and suites, each its own composition of antique furnishings, Parisian fabrics, vintage tapestries, original paintings.

Certain suites go further — a spacious private sun deck, an outdoor jacuzzi, the island unrolling below. A seasonal pool waits at The Xara Lodge, five minutes away by car.

Of the three restaurants, The de Mondion holds a Michelin star for its modern Mediterranean cooking.
