The place

A pink palace on a clifftop near Funchal, held in tropical gardens since the nineteenth century. Reid’s Palace has kept its old-world glamour intact; nothing here rushes.

The 126 rooms wear pastel palettes and antique furniture, with floral accents, marble bathrooms and private balconies.

Two pools sit at the cliff’s edge, the ocean panoramic below. There is a spa for luxurious treatments, and tennis on the clifftop courts. William, the Michelin-starred restaurant, serves its contemporary fine-dining menu with the coastline as backdrop.
