The place
Viceroy Chicago revived the former Cedar Hotel in the Gold Coast district of downtown Chicago. Working with architecture studio Goettsch Partners, the 5-star hotel preserved the original brick-and-terra-cotta facade and set an 18-story glass tower quietly on top of it.
The 180 rooms and suites carry a glamorous modern charm: a gold palette, rich mid-century furnishing, floor-to-ceiling windows, deluxe bedding, Natura Bisse toiletries.
The rooftop pool looks out across Lake Michigan. A modern fitness center waits below. And Somerset, the signature restaurant, works through a sophisticated menu drawn from the flavors of the Midwest.
