The place

Beside Plaza de España, an iconic modernist concrete high-rise carries one of Madrid's most playful hotels. Jaime Hayón shaped the double-decked lobby — curvy contemporary furniture, pastel green walls, marble floors, and an enormous bear sculpture watching over it all.

The 258 rooms and suites keep to a simpler white, brightened by colorful designer seating, light wooden floors, brass accents, and quirky details. The bathrooms are crafted in black and white marble; comfortable bedding, a TV, and Pure Herb toiletries round things out.

Under a large skylight, the indoor pool sits serene, lounge beds along its edge. A sauna and a fully equipped fitness center wait nearby. Four places to eat and drink, Somos among them — glamorous, with a refined Spanish menu.
