Casa Modesta

The place

A whitewashed family house from the 1940s, just east of Olhão, remade by local studio PAr into something quietly precise. Casa Modesta sits among orchards in the Ria Formosa Nature Park, its clean lines a contemporary reading of the region's vernacular architecture.

The nine suites are filled with light. White walls, cedar furniture by LACECAL, traditional terracotta tiles, a touch of brass, a few curated objects. Each opens onto its own patio or terrace.

There is an outdoor pool, a vegetable garden, a communal kitchen. Beyond them, the coastal lagoons of the Ria Formosa — counted among the Seven Wonders of Portugal — lie just past the door.
