The place
In the rugged mountains outside Oaxaca, where mezcal is made, Casa Silencio sits on sixteen acres. Architect Alejandro D’Acosta built it from clay, reclaimed wood, and steel — a cluster of contemporary houses that seem to belong to the hillside.
Six rooms, no two alike. Each carries the work of local artisans: distressed leather, hand-woven wool rugs, velvet upholstery, copper lamps, artwork, artisanal candles. Rustic, but exact.
The distillery is here too. Guests walk the sustainable production floor, watch mezcal being made, taste special editions. In the kitchen, chef Daniel Robles serves an upscale contemporary menu that has earned its awards.
