Hotel Terrestre

The place

Hotel Terrestre lies between the coastline and the mountains of Puerto Escondido — a series of villas handcrafted from concrete and white mud brick. Designed by Taller de Arquitectura X, the award-winning architecture reaches back to antiquity by way of brutalism.

There are 14 villas, no more, each granted real privacy. Wood, brick, concrete, and clay make up their textured, earthy rooms; the furniture is custom work by architect Oscar Hagerman. Every villa keeps its own garden, rooftop, outdoor shower, and private pool with panoramic views.

Beyond them, a long outdoor pool and a large communal bath looking onto the lush garden. The spa runs from water bathtub to steam, indoor shower to outdoor. The open-air restaurant cooks Mexican and Mediterranean dishes from local produce.
